Abstract

This research aimed to know the significant effect of using students’ personal experience technique to improve students’ writing narrative text at tenth graders of SMA Islam Ulil Al-Baab NW Gegek in the school year 2017-2018. This research applied Pre-experimental method. The present researcher took one class as the sample, in which were 21 students of X BHS 1 as the experimental class. A pre-test and post-test were given to the 21 students of X BHS 1. For technique of analyzing data, the present researcher used SPSS 22 for Windows. Based on the result of data analysis, the mean score of pre-test was 49.94 and post-test was 52.52. It means that there were significant different in the mean scores between pre-test and post-test. In testing hypothesis, the present researcher found that the value of significant level was much lower than 05. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It is able to conclude that using students’ personal experience was significantly effective in teaching writing narrative text at tenth grade students of SMA Islam Ulil Al-Baab NW Gegek in the school year 2017-2018.
