Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the types of illocutionary acts in novel "What Mother Never Told Me" by Donna Hill. This research was qualitative design. After conducting the analysis and discussion on findings, then come to the conclusion of this study which focused on speech acts in Donna Hill's novel entitled "What Mother Never Told Me" published in 2010. There are four types of illocutionary acts found in the novel entitled "What Mother Never Told Me" by Donna Hill. Those are; directive, commissive, expressive, and none of the characters performed declarative type. Keyword: novel, pragmatic analysis, i;;ocutionary acts.
