Abstract
Zulkarnaen Huda. 2024. The Effectivenes of Cooperative Script Method on Students’ Reading Skill. Undergraduate Thesis. English Language Education Program, Language and Art Education Departement. STKIP Hamzanwadi Selong. Advisor: (1) Muhammad Husnu, M.Pd and (2)Ahmad Yusri, M.Pd Key Words: Cooperative Script Method, Reading Skill. The purpose of this research was to know whether or not Cooperative Script Method effevtive on students’ reading skill of narrative text for the ninth graders of SMPN 2 Labuhan Haji in Academic year 2024/2025. The design used in this research was a quasi-experimental, with non radomized control group pre-test-post test design. The population of this research was the entire of the ninth grade students of the SMPN 2 Labuhan Haji in academic year 2024/2025 which consisted of 102 students. Then, the sample consisted of 35 students for experimental class and 35 students for control class. Furthermore, the instrument used in this research was multiple choice tests to know the students’ reading skill. In collecting the data the researcher administered pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups and to analyze the data the researcher used t-test by applying SPSS 20 for windows, to find whether the alternative hypothesis was accepted or not. Based on the result of data analysis it was found that the mean score was 56. 14 and the Standard Deviation was 8.143, for experimental group, while for control group, it was found that the mean score was 48.00 and the Standard Deviation was 8.243. Then, in post-test, it was gained that the mean score was 64.57 and the Standard Deviation was 9.577 for experimental group, while for control group, it was obtained that the mean score was 53.43 and the Standard Deviation was 5.658. Furthermore, after testing the hypothesis it was gotten that there was a significant difference in the t-test scores between groups (experimental and control groups) of the post-test, t(df=34) = 7. 84 and 6.63 at significant level p= 0.00. Meaning that the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. Reffering to these data it can be concluded that Cooprative Script Method was significantly effective on students’ reading skill of narrative texts for the ninth graders of SMPN 2 Labuhan Haji in Academic year 2024/2025.
