Abstract

Listening comprehension is an important skill in English language proficiency, but it remains a major challenge for many EFL learners. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Spotify as a digital learning medium in improving the listening skills of students in the English Education Study Program at Hamzanwadi University. Spotify, with its wide selection of songs, podcasts, and interactive lyrics feature, provides authentic input and an engaging learning experience for students. This study used a pre-experimental quantitative design involving fourth-semester students who took a series of pre-tests, treatments, and post-tests. The treatment consisted of listening activities through Spotify, specifically using the song “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars, with a focus on main ideas, specific information, inferences, and vocabulary comprehension. Data were collected through a 25-question multiple-choice test administered before and after the treatment. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and paired t-tests to determine the improvement in listening skills. The results showed a significant increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, thus concluding that the use of Spotify is effective in improving students' listening skills. This study confirms that Spotify can be an innovative and practical medium in supporting the development of EFL learners' listening skills.
