Abstract
This study explores the perceptions of second-semester students in the English Education Program at Hamzanwadi University toward the use of the animated film Finding Nemo as a medium for learning English vocabulary. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with 45 respondents, of whom five were selected for in-depth interviews. Thematic analysis revealed that students perceived the film positively, describing the learning process as enjoyable, motivating, and less stressful compared to traditional methods. Repeated exposure to the film enhanced vocabulary acquisition, supported by contextual and visual cues that facilitated comprehension and retention. Moreover, several students reported applying the newly learned vocabulary in classroom activities, indicating the film’s effectiveness in promoting active usage. Despite some challenges, such as character accents, speech speed, and occasional distractions from visuals, these issues did not significantly hinder learning outcomes. The findings suggest that Finding Nemo provides an authentic, engaging, and effective context for vocabulary learning, highlighting the importance of integrating audiovisual media into English language instruction to foster motivation and meaningful language acquisition.
