Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aimed at analyzing the writing anxiety of English student of Hamzanwadi University, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia. This study described the dominant type and the factors of writing anxiety of English student. This research was a mixed method research. The participants consisted of 15 students and had been chosen by using purposive sampling. Two closed-ended questionnaires, Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) proposed by Cheng, and Causes of Writing Anxiety Inventory (CWAI) proposed by Rezaei and Jafari were employed to collect the data. An observation and an interview were conducted to strengthen the result. Finding revealed that the dominant type of writing anxiety was avoidance behavior, which is based on the highest mean among other type of writing anxiety. Then there are three main factors that cause writing anxiety. They are high frequency of writing assignments, low selfconfidence in writing, and time pressure.
