Abstract
The goal of this research was to find out whether the implementation of mind mapping technique is effective in improving students’ speaking skills in MTs Ikhwanul Muslimin in the school year 2017-2018. The problems formulated in this research were (1) Is the use of mind mapping effective in teaching speaking for the eighth students of MTs Ikhwanul Muslimin Lenek in the school year of 2017-2018? (2) How effective is the use of mind mapping in teaching speaking for the eighth students of MTs Ikhwanul Muslimin Lenek in the school year of 2017-2018? This research design was one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the eighth graders of MTs Ikhwanul Muslimin Lenek that consisted of 56 students in 2 classes. The sample of this research was class B which consisted of 20 students. In collecting the data, a pre-test and a post-test were given to the students. The result of the data analysis indicated that the mean score of the pre-test was 50.25 while in post-test was 69.75. In testing hypothesis, the result of t-test was = -13.927 at p = 0.00. It meant that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It can be said that the implementation of mind mapping technique was significantly effective in teaching speaking. Key words: mind mapping, speaking skills
