Abstract

This research was aimed at examining the effectiveness of strategy-based writing model in teaching writing skill for the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Pringgasela. The population was all of the tenth graders which consisted of six classes (X IPA 1, X IPA 2, X IPS 1, X IPS 2, X IPS 3 and X BAHASA). It used pre-experimental research design by 35 students in one class as the sample, which was X IPA 1. The data collection was done by giving pre-test and post-test in form of subjective test in writing recount texts. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 for windows. After analyzing the data, the present researcher found that the mean score of pre-test was 44.74 while in post-test was 57.28 meaning that the mean scores of post-test was higher than pre-test. After submitting data to the Paired-Sample t-test, the present researcher found that p = .000 and t(df=34) = 10.05. It means that the value of sig (2-tailed) t was lower than .005. It implied that strategy-based writing model was significantly effective in teaching writing skill for the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Pringgasela in the school year 2017-2018.
