Abstract

This study aims to find out the students’ ability of seventh graders to write transactional dialogues and to find out the students problem on writing transactional dialogue. The method used in this research was the quantitative description. The population in this study was seven graders of MTS Maraqitta’limat Gelumpang. Informing the sample in this study the researchers used the saturated sample technique, where the saturated sample technique is that all populations are sampled if the population is small. The number of students in seven graders was eighteen people that consisting of thirteen men and women consisting of five people. Data obtained from the distribution of writing tests on the students and then the results of the students writing transactional dialogue the researcher analysis it’ used descriptive statistics. Based on the data analysis, it was found that only one person who got very high scores (76) than one person who got high scores (68), eight-person who got the average category (60) and six people who got the low-grade category (52) and two person who got (44). The total average value of students in writing transactional dialogue was 56.66. This shows that the ability of students to interpret transactional dialogue was categorized as low. After the mean score had founded 56.66, this is categorized average, it is became answer that the hypothesis was rejected. The students comprise each component of writing, namely organization, vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, and content, but from this problem, the majority of these components students have problems with mechanic, grammar and vocabulary. .
