Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to know the significant effect of Saffolding Technique in teaching writing at the Eight graders students of SMPN 4 Sambelia in the school year 2019-2020. This research was designed as pre experimental by using single group pre test and post test design. The population of the study was 50 and 15 as the sample in A class by random sampling. Writing test and analytical scoring rubric were the instrument used in collecting the data. Then the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and paired sample t-test to test the hypothesis, it was performed by SPSS 22 for windows. The result of descriptive statistic analysis showed that Scaffolding Technique was effective in teaching writing ability. It was proven by the improvement of students’ score from 29.33 in Pre-Test and 62.13 in Post- Test. While the result of hypothesis testing by using paired sample t-test at significance (2-tailed) value level was .000, it was lower than .05. It means that Scaffolding Technique significantly effective in teaching writing ability. It was suggested that teaching writing using Scaffolding Technique is suitable as an alternative media in teaching and learning process. Key words: Scaffolding Technique, Writing Ability
