Abstract

This research aimed to know and describe the cultural content of English textbook “Bahasa Inggris X” published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic Indonesia revised 2017 from the types of culture, the types of cultural information and the elements of culture. This research was content analysis study to reveal the cultural contents in this textbook. Furthermore, the present researcher used descriptive qualitative analysis. The technique of collecting data was document review. The present researcher analyzed the data based on adapted Mile’s and Hubarman’s concept, they are; collecting data, classifying, coding, marking, tabulating, interpreting and concluding. This research found that the cultural information in Bahasa Inggris X are presented mainly in the form of Visual Illustration which are represented by product and person. Besides, the appearance of Idioms and Collocation also has the bigger portion than another cultural information. Thus represented in expression and grammar section through units. On the other hand, the cultural information such as: informative text, contextualized writing tasks, dialogue about daily life, realia, sounds recording and text presenting foreign’s attitude and opinion contain more practice and perspective are minimally found. Following thus, the types of culture such are source culture, target culture, and international target culture are found in small portion where source culture are dominant than target culture and international target culture.
