Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pair and share strategy to improve students' speaking ability. The research is pre-experimental research with one group given pre-test and post-test. The number of sample in this study were 21 students from class 7E at SMP Negeri 1 Lenek taken by purposive sampling technique. In the pre-test and post-test were applied individual oral test, then in the treatment, pair and share strategy was applied. The students score of speaking test were analyzed using t-test to prove the hypothesis. From the result of the t-test it can be said that pair and share technique was effective in the speaking ability of the 7E students at SMP Negeri 1 Lenek. Based on analysis result, the t-test result of 21 students are lower than = 0.005. From the result of the t-test, it is concluded that Pair and Share strategy was effective to increase the students' speaking ability. Keyword: pair and share strategy, speaking ability
